As for all health professionals, one of our most important responsibilities to our patients is to NOT transmit diseases between patients.
In common with all dental surgeons in France, we adhere to the strictest of procedures. We pay particular attention to immediately implementing new directives in accordance with the latest scientific advances. For further details of these procedures please visit the website of H.A.S. (Haute Autorite en Sante): La Sterilisation.
Once treatment has been completed all used equipment is deposited in containers which are designed especially for the purpose; sharp/cutting objects and bloodstained items are placed in a specially sealed plastic container and subsequently dealt with by specialist contractors. The other items are placed in waste rubbish bags and disposed of.
Reusable equipment is soaked in special disinfectant/antiseptic solutions in identified units. Once the tools vibrate they are removed from the liquid. They are then placed in a “washing machine” where they are rinsed and dried. Afterwards the instruments are steamed and wrapped in a special type of wrapping and the date of the procedure is noted on each item.
Finally the instruments are sterilised and vacuum packed for 25 minutes in 140 degrees heat. This destroys any trace contamination relating to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
The instruments are then placed in the stores of the dental surgery for future use. The sterile packaging is not opened until immediately before the instruments are required. After use, the same procedure will be followed. All instruments which have a use by date of more than two months are automatically re-sterilised.
