In recent years great effort is being made by dental surgeons to provide information and detection through the set up of the Association of Dental Surgeons UFSBD (Union Française pour la Sante Dentaire).

It is unacceptable that someone under the age of 30 should suffer from dental decay. When this is the case, it is often as a result of poor diet. Prime examples include; excessive sugar consumption between meals such as sweets, ice cream, cereal (sports) bars, fruit juice (acid and sugar) and the worst culprit of all – fizzy drinks.

From that point of view damaging fizzy drinks such as Pepsi and Coke need to be withdrawn from sale. It is true to say that a glass of fizzy drink contains 16 lumps of sugar. In those who drink copious amounts of Coke, Pepsi and other similar fizzy drinks, the teeth are literally corroded and attacked by dental decay.

Another problem is poor dental hygiene and certain medicines (anti-epileptic for the young and anti-Parkinson for older patients). These are reasons for our practice to provide an in-depth examination of patients with dental decay. I required and desired, the patient can then enter into a prevention treatment plan at regular intervals. The teeth will be polished and a fluoride coating will be added to strengthen the defences against decay. In addition, every child who needs it will have their cavities sealed and coated with fluoride.

WE FIRMLY BELIEVE IN PRIORITISING PREVENTION AND IT IS ACTIVELY PRACTISED IN OUR SURGERY. AMPLE TIME IS SET ASIDE EACH DAY AT THE SURGERY FOR THIS PURPOSE.

preventionL 300x200We work in this manner :
  1. Asking appropriate questions to establish the cause/s of the dental decay or gum disease (please see specific section).
  2. Treating the problem areas with careful scaling and cleaning, giving dietary advise and prescribe suitable fluoride products, Fluoride Varnisa.
  3. Treating the decay and its consequences (please see specific section).
  4. A final polish, a fluoride coating and implementation of an individual preventative program to be reviewed at regular intervals early in the treatment plan so that an evaluation can be made and quickly adjusted if required.
